Constitution

The church of St Mary’s has been at the centre of Charlton Kings for over 815 years. The obligation on us all to maintain this vital work in the 21st century is greater than ever. The Friends of St Mary’s Church was set up as an independent charity in the year 2000. “The Friends” main objective is to advance the Christian faith by:

  • Assisting in the maintenance of the fabric of the Parish Church of St Mary, Charlton Kings in the Diocese of Gloucester.
  • Enhancing and improving the fittings, ornaments, monuments, and churchyard of the Church
  • Such other charitable purposes as the Executive Committee may decide.

Since its formation, the Friends has spent over £24,000 on these objectives. Projects which the Friends have supported include replacement of the chancel carpet, refurbishment of noticeboards, handrails into St David’s chapel, a second board listing the names of vicars of the church, and seat cushions for all the pews.

The Friends of St Mary’s Church, Charlton Kings, is an independent charity (Registered Charity Number 1072508).

Apart from fundraising through the sale of cards and other goods, the Association also organises a variety of popular social activities and outings throughout the year. There is also an annual Friends’ Service in February.
