The choir at St. Mary’s Church, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham is a traditional 4-part robed choir affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). The choir’s repertoire encompasses music of many styles from plainsong through to contemporary. The choir sing at 2 services each Sunday, these are the Parish Communion at 10:00am and Choral Evensong at 5:30pm.
In addition to singing services at St. Mary’s, choir members have the opportunity to take part in external courses and events, and the choir maintains a regular program of singing visits to local cathedrals. Suitably experienced choristers have the opportunity to prepare for and enter the RSCM Dean’s and Bishop’s award schemes and may also audition to sing with RSCM Voices.
We also enjoy a number of social events throughout the year, many of which are particularly for the benefit of our school-aged choristers. Recent events have included cake decorating and a trip to Drayton Manor. We have an annual barbeque at the end of the summer term and a bonfire and fireworks party on the Friday nearest to November 5th.
We believe that we are the only choir in Cheltenham that offers this rich mixture of musical and social activity and that puts children and young people at the heart of all that we do.
