Getting Married at St Mary's

If you are thinking of getting married in St Mary's Church then we would be delighted to talk to you. Our Church which sits in the heart of Charlton Kings is a delightful venue for your special day. Now that the regulations about where you can get married have been relaxed we are able to consider your requests even if you live outside the parish. For example, if you grew up in Charlton Kings, or if you were christened in St Mary's Church but have since moved away, then the connection you had with the Church in the past may enable you to be married here. If your parents' home is within the parish then this also counts as a qualifying connection.

Please contact the Vicar (Revd Michael Garland) or the Curate (Revd Leonora Hill) if you would like to discuss your marriage plans. We are happy to put provisional dates in the diary for your wedding day and then to meet up for further discussion to consider more detailed arrangements. The cost of a wedding at St Mary's is £560 in 2010. This includes the fees for our Organist and for our Bell-Ringers. We are proud of our excellent musical tradition and our bell-ringing team will make a splendid job of rounding off your wedding service in style.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Christenings at St Mary's

If you are thinking about having your child christened at St Mary's then we would be delighted to talk to you. Any family living in the parish of St Mary's is invited to contact the Vicar (Revd Michael Garland) or the Curate (Revd Leonora Hill). If you were married at St Mary's but have since moved away we would be happy to talk to you about holding the christening service in Charlton Kings.

Christenings are normally arranged on a Sunday of your choice either at 12.30pm or as part of the morning Parish Communion service at 10am. It is also possible to arrange for a Christening on a Saturday. We offer a preparation evening to explain the service in more detail and to help you with some of the practical arrangements as well. There is no charge for a Christening. It may be helpful for you to know that godparents need to have been christened or baptised themselves.

If you are an adult and wish to be baptised then please do speak with one of the clergy.

Funerals at St Mary's

Arrangements for a Funeral Service are usually made with the Vicar through a Funeral Director. The clergy at St Mary's are always on hand to offer you support and care in a sad and stressful time.

A Funeral Service can be arranged in Church to precede or follow the Committal at the Cemetery or the Crematorium. Burials are no longer possible in the churchyard. However, the interment of ashes may be arranged in our new Garden of Remembrance or in an existing family plot.
