Organist & Choirmaster
John has been a secondary school music teacher for nearly forty years.
He studied music at Bristol University and gained his PGCE at Christ Church College Canterbury.
John began his teaching career in the London Borough of Havering before moving across to the other side of London to Richmond. He moved to Gloucestershire in 1988 to be Head of Music at Arle School. After moving to St Peter’s RC High School in 1994, he finally moved to Bournside School in 2005, where he has remained since then. He stood down as Head of Music in December 2020, but he still teaches there on a part-time basis.
He began studying the organ aged 12, inspired by the experience of turning pages and pulling out stops in an organ recital by his piano teacher at the time.
John has played the organ at a number of different churches over the years, including Viney Hill in the Forest of Dean and St Peter’s, Leckhampton.
He has an interest in a wide range of choral music He has conducted a number of local choirs including Churchdown Choral Society.
