Walk Of Witness

The Walk of Witness is an event held each year on Good Friday designed to bring people from all the Churches of Charlton Kings together to remember the Easter message. In this time where we are forced to be physically apart why not take the opportunity to use the readings and words below to help remember others as we come together in spirit to celebrate the Easter message.

About the street theatre in the shopping/library precinct: The Charlton Kings Community Players have been presenting street theatre as part of the Charlton Kings Churches Good Friday ‘Walk of Witness’ since the early 1990s. ‘Josh on Trial’, presented in 2012, is an extract of two scenes from a Passion Play performed in Holy Week 2013 by the Players titled ‘A Man for this Season’. The challenge of that play was to examine how far the last days of the Jesus Christ of history have a relevance to our community today.

Megan, Thanks. I’m glad we were socially distanced and time distanced, but not really. However, as Jane of course is a parishioner at Sacred Hearts you can’t really get too close (Churches Together – surely not?). The Nigerian priest at Jane’s Mum’s Church in Hale Barns where we were married does mass online every day and is an amazing man. He said yesterday that Easter is longer than Lent but people think it’s over after Easter Sunday (a bit like Christmas) and don’t celebrate Easter enough. This year we can try. Best wishes. Simon

A very big Thank You to ALL of YOU for posting and witnessing on behalf of fellow church members. Very very thoughtful of you and so much appreciated. Happy Easter. 💐🐣

Thank you very much for doing this. We had so much wanted to offer Witness today and present another piece of drama.

Blessings and peace to you for Easter.

I would just like to let you know that Jane and I today did the Walk of Witness. We set off rather late today from Sandhurst Road and doubtless missed all those who walked at the right time. We went to Holy Apostles and started from the car park there. We walked to Sixways for the next stop. We stopped at Smith and Mann and walked through St Mary’s churchyard and saw Ila and Kaushik in passing. We went on to the precinct for Jane to perform and I had to understudy. It was very well received. Then on to the cemetery and finally to Timbercombe Farm. Jane told me it was private land and I should not go on but the gate was open and I proceeded to the farm. The lady there was very nice but the horses were out and I could not go on up the hill. She said the churches had not gone last year since in recent years it had been too wet. Alas, today it was perfect. We didn’t have a hunger lunch at the Baptist Hall and returned home via the playing fields for lunch here. It was a spelendid walk not spoiled but missed looking down on you all. Keep well and Happy Easter.
